August 2013 Meeting (AGM)

August meeting was also our Annual General Meeting. Members enjoyed the usual tempting spread of cold meats, cheeses and other goodies in the break, courtesy of the outgoing Committee.

Those existing Committee members who accepted nominations from the floor to stand again were re-elected unopposed – see the 2013-14 committee list on our Contact page.

Main prize of a Western Digital ‘My Passport for Mac’ 2TB USB3 Portable Hard Drive, valued at $188, was won by Fran Maher.

Presentations: Ron Lombardo’s Tech Talk included a demo of a new iOS game called Fog of World (tracks a path through a virtual ‘fog’ showing anywhere you have recently been or travelled to, but uses a lot of battery power), a sophisticated algebra app called Math42, and touched on new words in tech lingo such as ‘gameification’ and ‘monetisation’ – Ron will talk more about monetisation next meeting. Ron also announced that your Geepers locations can now be tagged as public, address book, or private – meaning that the location is visible either to everybody, to people in your Geepers Address Book only, or only to you, respectively.

Robin showed us 3 apps on his iPad – Autocam Timer, IP Network Scanner and Heart Rate.

Warwick did a demo of the latest version of 1Password on iPad, also Web to PDF and touched on Media Servers (more on Media Servers next meeting).
